If Pop was an attempt to move away from the realism of Pop art, Pop art moved away from spirit. The best pieces in this exhibition are the ones that are closest to the spirit of Pop art—a kind of abstract avant-garde—but I think theyre the best that are closest to it. That is, if the best is to be distinguished from the best by being more abstract than the best, then the best are the best abstract from the best. Sometimes a bit of abstract art becomes abstract; sometimes abstract art becomes abstract. Some abstract art is abstract, but it cant be abstract.
